Globalisation and education

  • Globalisation has also encouraged comparisons to be made between the performance of school children across the world
  • This performance data is known as PISA data. When countries compare their education performance with other countries those doing less well seek to implement policies of the better countries
  • For example Finland is often at the top of PISA data and so the UK which is in the middle copies some Finnish educational polices such as encouraging teachers to have an MA
  • Making performance comparisons is yet another example of the marketisation of education
