Marketisation of education – The 1988 Education Act
These principles are evident in the 1988 Education Act because the act introduced:
- The National Curriculum
- National testing (SATS)
- National league tables
- Open enrolment and parental choice
- Ofsted
- Local management of schools
All the above policies were introduced to act as ‘market-signals’ – things which informed parents about a school so they could make an informed choice as to what school they could send their child to – known as parentocracy
