Social control in the workplace
- External surveillance occurs through what Foucault terms ‘disciplinary power’
- Disciplinary power – is where people, in this case workers (or employees) monitor/regulate their own behaviour (discipline themselves) because they don’t know whether they’re under surveillance or not
- Grint (2005) argues the effect of the the carceral archipelago is it undermines employee/employer trust and so the worker finds imaginative ways of rebelling
