New Media and Location

  • There’s increasingly a digital divide in terms of location with the information rich in wealthy countries and information poor in poorer countries
  • This creates global digital underclass
  • Poverty restricts internet access to those people living under developed countries while the opposite is true for other countries
  • Language is another issue as English dominates 85% of websites, excluding those who can’t access English content websites which questions the role of globalisation and media products
