Postmodern perspective of crime – revision notes with evaluative points

  • Postmodernism helps explain the diverse reasons people commit crime over the ‘simplistic’ explanations offered by Marxism etc
  • It explains non-utilitarian crime such as hate crime
  • Trouble is:
  • Postmodernism it fails to explain the resentment felt by those who are marginalised or indeed how to solve becoming marginalised
  • It fails to explain why people feel a strong sense of right and wrong
  • It fails to account for why elites are given the power to decide what is right or wrong
