Criticisms of Davie
- Voes and Crockett do not accept Davies claim and instead claim that there is more than believing without belonging
- Evidence from British Social Attitudes surveys show that both church attendance and belief in God are declining
- We would expect to see higher levels of belief if Davie was right.
- Bruce adds that by people not being willing to invest time in going to church, then this actually reflects the declining strengths of people’s beliefs;
- they no longer wish to belong, and so no longer believe.
