Voes and Crockett do not accept Davies claim and instead claim that there is more than believing without belonging
Evidence from British Social Attitudes surveys show that both church attendance and belief in God are declining
We would expect to see higher levels of belief if Davie was right.
Bruce adds that by people not being willing to invest time in going to church, then this actually reflects the declining strengths of people’s beliefs;
they no longer wish to belong, and so no longer believe.
