Female subcultures in schools

  • Scott Davis (1995) found girls’ resistance to school was evident but less aggressive than their male counterparts due to their preoccupation with ‘romance’ and any future domestic roles.
  • Abrahams (1995) identified female resistance to school as one based on pushing school rules to the limit.
  • While Osler and Vincent (2003) suggest that girls are more likely to develop patterns of non-attendance when facing difficulties in school
