Factors Inside School (interactionist perspective)

  • Unlike those sociologists who focus on factors outside school, the interactionist perspective focuses on factors inside school
  • Interactionists do not see pupils as passive ‘victims’- of material or cultural forces but as active in their relationships with teachers and their schools through:
  • school organisation
  • teacher interaction – labelling; halo effect etc
  • and pupil subcultures which includes:
  • gender and ethnicity based subcultures
  • anti-and pro-school subcultures
