- Unlike those sociologists who focus on factors outside school, the interactionist perspective focuses on factors inside school
- Interactionists do not see pupils as passive ‘victims’- of material or cultural forces but as active in their relationships with teachers and their schools through:
- school organisation
- teacher interaction – labelling; halo effect etc
- and pupil subcultures which includes:
- gender and ethnicity based subcultures
- anti-and pro-school subcultures
