Voluntary welfare provision

  • Voluntary welfare provision – is delivered by non-profit organizations such as charities like the Trussell Trust foodbanks
  • this is also known as the third sector.
  • though they employ salaried staff, the non-profit-making organizations are funded by donations from the public and grants
  • these organizations include Shelter, Help the Aged and the Child Poverty Action Group which are also pressure groups.
  • as pressure groups they’re free to put pressure, in public, on those in power in order to raise the awareness of the plight of the poor in order to improve welfare provision, something state provision aren’t free to do
