Alienation

  • Fordist production methods (deskilling) led to what is termed as alienation
  • alienation is an outcome of deskilling
  • which created the following problems :
  • high levels of absenteeism
  • high ‘churn’ rates of staff
  • poor quality training so workers unable to rectify problems when they occurred
  • lack of motivation and commitment
