Media Representations of Ethnicity

Black and Asian groups are negatively stereotyped creating scapegoats for social issues – ethnic minorities get blamed for things like economic issues (think deviancy amplification spiral)
Minority ethnic groups are often represented as law-breakers and deviants in TV and film roles
Ethnic minorities are represented as posing a threat with their ‘alien’ culture creating an ‘enemy within’
They are also represented in the news as causing social problems such as asylum seekers who are really economic migrants and not people fleeing persecution
