Free schools

Free schools are new state schools (which could include independent schools becoming state schools for the first time) set up by teachers, parents, existing educational charities, and community groups.

But there must be a parental demand for the school and a high quality of application. In addition the group must form a charity and cannot make a profit.

Free schools are held accountable to the government and are free from Local Authority Control.
